The 2024 G80 At a Glance
G80 Review Affordability and luxury don't typically go hand in hand, but that's precisely what the 2024 Genesis G80 delivers. In the early days, Genesis was a luxury Hyundai sedan before the Genesis name spun off as its own brand to challenge Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura. Now, it has its sights set on Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
The gas-powered G80 is the midsize choice in the Genesis luxury sedan lineup, slotting between the G70 and the G90. The all-electric Genesis Electrified G80 EV is reviewed separately. The standard G80 competes against the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, both of which have been redesigned for the 2024 model year, along with the returning Audi A6. The Genesis offers more standard features, while undercutting the cost of those rivals by a few thousand dollars. To sweeten the deal, it also comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, beating those competitors by a large margin. For example, the A6 comes with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty.
With each new-model introduction or redesign of an existing car, Genesis moves closer to the German brands. As it stands, the 2024 Genesis G80 is a worthy alternative for those on less generous budgets.

What Trim Levels are Available for the 2024 G80?
The 2024 Genesis G80 is available in two models based on engine size: 2.5T and 3.5T Sport. The 2.5T is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, and the 3.5T Sport uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. All-wheel drive is standard on both models. The Advanced and Sport Prestige packages function as trim levels, allowing buyers to add amenities. The 3.5T Sport is the popular model, but we recommend the 2.5T for most buyers.

What is the Interior Like in the 2024 G80?
To answer your question in simple terms: stunning!
The 2024 Genesis G80 interior features upscale materials, with open-pore wood trim, matte-finish aluminum, and a wavelike stitching pattern on the door panels. A spare aesthetic dominates, from the unusual two-spoke steering wheel to the integrated dash vents. The seats are soft, and padded surfaces impart a rich vibe. Even the faux leather upholstery in the Advanced package convincingly emulates the real stuff (which is standard in the 3.5T Sport and arrives with the Sport Prestige package in the 2.5T).
The gently curved shape of the dash is repeated on the wide center console, which houses a dial shifter, a drive-mode selector knob, and a rotary controller for the infotainment system. The controls feature elegant, knurled edges, indicative of the attention to detail.
Models equipped with the Sport Prestige package get a digital instrument cluster, blind-spot monitor, surround-view camera, and head-up display.
The G80 interior feels spacious despite the car's tapered roofline. Rear-seat headroom is adequate for a 6-footer, and legroom is generous. The 13.1-cubic-foot trunk matches that of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but is smaller than those in the Audi A6 (13.7 cubic feet) or BMW 5 Series (18.4 cubic feet).

2024 G80 Infotainment, Connectivity,
& Convenience Features.
The standard 14.6-inch infotainment display in the 2024 Genesis G80 is one of the largest in this class. The ultra-wide screen can show multiple functions at once, and the modern graphics have sharp resolution. In keeping with the interior's Zen-like theme, the system offers a Sounds of Nature program that pairs a relaxing image with sounds such as ocean waves or a crackling fire. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
Above the climate controls are a few more buttons for Map, Nav, Radio, Media, and Setup, which are also helpful. Thumbwheels adjust the volume and tuning. A lidded bin at the front of the console houses the USB ports and the wireless phone charger (in cars so equipped). A Wi-Fi hotspot is included in all models.

- Three-zone automatic climate control

How does the 2024 G80 Handle on the Road?
The 2024 Genesis G80's engine choices are a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder (2.5T) and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 (3.5T); both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
While the six-cylinder's 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque are tempting, the base turbo four-cylinder makes no apologies. Its 300 hp and 311 lb-ft put it less than 1 second behind the V6 in the sprint from zero to 60 mph, and it certainly feels powerful enough when merging or passing. The 2.5 T's output also shades the turbo-fours in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, and BMW 5 Series. Also, the 2.5T has enough oomph lower in the rev range - peak torque arrives at just 1,650 rpm.
The G80 is refined and quiet when cruising. It delivered a comfortable ride with decent bump isolation. Furthermore, the G80's steering is quick, making the car feel responsive.
ENGINE | 2.5L Turbo 4-cylinder |
HORSEPOWER | 300 HP |
TORQUE | 311 lb.-ft. |
MPG (CITY / HWY) | 22/30 |
