Gaskets never occur to most of us until it's time for them to be replaced. What are they and what purpose do they serve?. Gaskets are automotive seals. They keep vehicle components from leaking or from taking on other liquids and debris. The following are a few gaskets that we most often replace at our Genesis of Gwinnett service department.

Automotive Gasket Types

Engine gaskets are the most critical type and the most likely to wear down. Engine gaskets keep your engine from leaking oil, coolant, fluid and air internally. Like all gaskets, engine gaskets don't have an average lifespan. That's why it's advisable to have your car's gaskets checked during routine scheduled service or any other service visit. Here are some other types of gaskets worth noting:

  • Transmissions Gaskets
  • Fuel Supply Gaskets
  • Cooling System Gaskets
  • Differential Gaskets

Built for Durability

Gaskets have to function optimally while taking on and dissipating pressure, heat and cold. Owing to this, they're usually made of heavy-duty material to maximize shelf life. The most frequently used materials to make gaskets are:
  • Rubber
  • Copper
  • Stainless Steel
  • Multi-Layer Steel (MLS)
  • Composites
