Have you ever wondered who's responsible for the Genesis brand? Is Genesis a stand-alone company? Based on the powerful impression they've made in the luxury market, one might think so! In this blog post, we'll be pulling back the curtain of the Genesis pedigree.

Hyundai Motor Group is the parent company of the Genesis brand. Hyundai's founding chairman, Chung Ju-Yung, established the Hyundai Motor Company in 1947. Since then, Hyundai has gone on to make quite a name for itself, recently earning its spot on Forbes' World's Most Valuable Brands of 2019 list!

With all that being said, Hyundai still strived to reach greater heights. The next step was to compete with established luxury brands - not an easy feat. Back in 2008, Hyundai released the first Hyundai Genesis sedan under their name, but announced independence in late 2015. In 2016, the standalone Genesis G90 finally appeared in showrooms.

Since then, Genesis has made leaps and bounds! The Genesis G70 was named the 2019 North America's Car of the Year just two years after its initial release! The company hopes to have six models in its lineup by 2020, including a redesign for the G90 and an all-new SUV - the Genesis GV80.

This begs the question - who brought the iconic Genesis design to life? Peter Schreyer, widely known for his work with Audi and Volkswagen between the mid 90s to mid 2000s, became the chief design officer of Hyundai-Kia in 2006. He was responsible for the Hyundai Genesis redesign in 2013, and the Genesis G70, G80, and G90 in 2017.

In 2018, former Head of Bentley Design, Luc Donckerwolke, joined the team. He is known for his work with reputable brands such as Lamborghini, Audi, and Bentley, of course. With a team this talented, Genesis quickly sized up competitors with grace and poise, allowing quality to do the talking.
